President and CEO of the Houston Hispanic Chamber of Commerce, Dr. Laura Murillo, was reappointed to the Harris County - Houston Sports Authority (HCHSA) board this month.

Murillo tweeted Oct. 7, sharing a photo as she was sworn into the HCHSA.

“Honored to have been reappointed to the @HCHSA board today,” Murillo wrote in her tweet.

According to the HCHSA website, members of the board are selected by either the Harris County Commissioners Court or the Houston City Council.

“Looking forward to continuing the work of attracting world-class sporting events to our region, including the @Hou2026WorldCup," she said.

In a response to Murillo’s tweet, Houston Mayor Sylvester Turner congratulated her on her appointment.

“Houston and Harris County are honored to have yourself and the other board members be tremendous advocates and bring quality sports events to our region,” Turner wrote in his tweet.

Murillo, the youngest of nine children born to Mexican immigrants, recently released a book titled "Lead in Life: People. Passion. Persistence. Succeed in the New Era of Diversity, Equity and Inclusion.” The focus of the book was to chronicle her experience transitioning from Houston’s Second Ward to a recognized leader and community advocate, the Houston Daily reported at that time.

The HCHSA's Board of Directors is made up of citizens of Houston and Harris County to include business owners, entrepreneurs and attorneys, as well as religious and community leaders, the HCHSA website states.

All board members are volunteers and work to provide Houston and Harris County residents with high-end sports facilities that will attract major sporting, entertainment and convention events, HCHSA states.
