Houston has landed on Terminix’s list of most rodent-infested cities in the nation.
The city ranked No. 8 on the pest control company’s top 50 list, according to Business Wire.
“As the seasons change and lower temperatures are just around the corner, rats and mice will be looking for warm, safe places to live, including our homes,” Dan Baldwin, director of technical and regulatory services at Terminix, said in a press release.
Terminix compiled the list using the number of requests they received over the past year from cities looking for help with rats and/or mice.
“As pest control experts and industry leaders, Terminix knows how to handle rodent infestations,” Baldwin said.
Signs of rodent infestation may include small droppings in the home, chewed wires, gnaw marks in food packaging, and ursine stains on shelves, according to the release.
“Our teams understand the biology and behavior of these pests, which can damage homes and potentially spread germs that cause diseases,” Baldwin said.
While Houston was ranked No. 8 on Terminix’s list, Dallas-Fort Worth was three spots ahead at No. 5.
Terminix released the list ahead of Rodent Awareness Week, which takes place from Oct. 17-23 in an effort to raise awareness about rodents.
Terminix provides rodent control services for both residential and commercial customers. In addition to rodents, the company states on its website that it also offers services against termites, bed bugs, mosquitoes, cockroaches and ants.
