U.S. Rep. Michael McCaul (R-Houston) has sent a letter to Secretary of State Antony Blinken and Secretary of Defense Lloyd Austin asking to help get family members of American servicemembers still trapped in Afghanistan home.

McCaul not only wrote a letter to the Secretary of State and Defense, but has also taken to social media to let the public know about the letter he sent and bring attention to the continued issue of Americans still stuck overseas.

"I sent a letter to Secretary of State Antony Blinken and Secretary of Defense Lloyd Austin to ask what the administration is doing to secure their evacuation," McCaul wrote in a tweet.

According to a press release from McCaul's office, many Americans were left behind by the Biden administration, despite the U.S. having pulled out of the country over a month ago.

"The United States’ deadly and chaotic exit from Afghanistan has left a stain on our country for generations," McCaul's letter, which can be found as part of the release from his office, began. "Many Americans have been left behind by the Biden administration and thousands, if not tens of thousands of our Afghan partners and their families were also abandoned."

McCaul also highlights in his letter how several Texan family members of servicemembers have been working day and night to try and get those people home. The issue is of such importance to McCaul, that he also has taken to social media to mention the outreach he has received from families.

"Over the last month, I have been contacted by hundreds of Texans who are desperately trying to get friends and family members safe out of the country. That includes the family members of several Texans who currently serve in the military," McCaul wrote in another tweet.

McCaul states in his letter that when the U.S. servicemembers "need us the most, the federal government has turned our backs on them." He goes on to say that if we abandon the family members of servicemembers, they will most likely be killed by the Taliban.

In conclusion to his letter, he does ask for an update on the evacuation plan to get the rest of American people out of Afghanistan.
