Rice Football picked up an exciting new prospect as Baytown Sterling safety Reece Sylvester has committed to the Owls.
When it came to choosing where he'll continue his academic and athletic careers, Sylvester decided to stay closer to home and chose to pledge with Rice, according to The Roost.
"Congrats to Reece Sylvester on receiving an offer from Rice. We are proud of you. Keep working hard. Bright future," Sterling Rangers Football wrote in a July 2 Twitter post.
Sylvester is the Owls' sixth commitment of its 2022 stable of recruits. He's the second defensive back pick for Rice and the fourth defensive player overall.
He factored heavily in Sterling's 14-7 win over Beaumont United on Sept. 23, chipping in two touchdown runs and a PAT score, according to The Baytown Sun.
Sylvester played both offense and defense in high school and was a proficient wide receiver, but will assume a primary position as safety for the Owls, boosting the team's defense.
