Baytown Lee's Trudell Berry, a three-star prospect by 24/7 Sports, verbally committed to Marshall over the summer.
The 6-foot, 180-pound Berry makes life hell for opposing receivers as a defensive back for the Ganders. Along with Marshall, he had also received offers from Colorado State, Columbia, Pennsylvania and Utah State, Click 2 Houston reported. It helped that he watched a 2006 movie about the football team he'll soon suit up for plenty of times as a child.
"Everybody in the town is behind Marshall football. Everybody," Berry said, according to Click 2 Houston. "They are projected to be first in their conference this year. I'm excited to see what they bring. Them bringing heat to the field is going to make me feel more inspired to play and ready to play. I can't wait to see them play; it's going to fuel the fire for me watching them play."
As a junior in 2020, Berry was a two-way player, moonlighting as a wideout aside from his usual cornerback position, according to VYPE Houston. He earned offensive and defensive all-district honors.
"One of his biggest assets is he is the most dependable teammate that you could have," Baytown Lee football coach Tim Finn told VYPE Houston. "If we have a practice or workout, no matter what we're doing he's the guy that's going to be there 100% of the time. And you're going to get his best effort, no matter what sport or what day."
Berry also runs track for Baytown Lee. Berry competes in the 4x100, 4x200, 4x400, 100 and 200-meter races.
"It's everything, without track there's no success on the football field," Berry told VYPE Houston on the benefits of his track activities.
Last year, he ran 10.93 in the 100 and a 22.10 in the 200, according to 24/7 Sports.
