Houston-born rap star Bun B is scheduled to make his solo debut before a home crowd early next year.

Born Bernard Freeman and revered as a local legend, the veteran artist is set to take the stage at the Rodeo Houston on March 11 for Black Heritage Day.

“Honored to play a small part in one of the trillest announcements for the upcoming Rodeo Houston season,” Houston Mayor Sylvester Turner posted on Twitter. “Looking forward to BunBTrillOG’s concert along with others next year.”

With his performance known as Bun B’s H-Town Takeover, the rapper who has performed on the same show with the likes of Beyoncé and Leon Bridges, will be joined at his own show by some of the area’s most well-known rap icons.

“The rodeo can’t wait to bring Bun B and many of Houston’s most legendary rappers to the Rodeo Houston stage in 2022,” said Rodeo President and CEO Chris Boleman. “Celebrating Black Heritage Day with many of our city’s own superstars should make for an epic night for Houstonians and rodeo fans alike.”

Tickets for the March 11 show, starting at $20, are slated to go on sale to the public in January at rodeohouston.com.

Bun B has previously appeared on the Rodeo stage as a guest performer.
