While much of the young and healthy population goes back to normal without hesitation following the mass availability of vaccinations, others are taking a much more deliberate approach.

Vaccine or not, the older portion of the population is still at risk for variants and other hazards posed by the pandemic. Fortunately, Fort Bend County Judge K.P. George was recently able to reunite with his mother after an entire year apart.

Like millions of other Americans, Judge George made the decision to isolate himself from his mother so as to not endanger her with the virus. For many, this was a tough decision, but absolutely necessary as the elderly are at significantly higher risk than the rest of the population when it comes to the coronavirus.

Judge George posted a heartfelt message on Twitter, showing his gratitude and love for his mom. The tweet read, “All smiles with mom. My almost 90-year-old mom has seen a lot. She raised eight of us out of poverty from a small village without running water or electricity to achieve the #AmericanDream. Due to #vaccines, I finally got to see my mom after a tough year.”

He grew up in poverty and he credits his mother and father for getting them through tough times, regardless of how difficult it was.

“I still remember my father, a truck driver, and my mother making all of my siblings and I pray to God every day with gratitude even when we didn’t have food, more than a pair of good clothes, or other basic necessities in our impoverished little village on the other side of the world. I continue to wake up every single day thankful and beyond blessed by God that I have been given the privilege of living in the USA. Even though we live in the most rich and powerful country on earth, we have a lot of work ahead of us," he said.

When the pandemic began, George knew that it was the right thing to do to keep his mother safe. He made the difficult decision to quarantine away from his mother for the year, until vaccinations were made available. Though Texas got out to a rough start when it comes to the management of the coronavirus, they have since shown great progress.

“We got the first case of COVID-19 in Texas. Since then we become the top urban county in the state for testing and now the top in the state for vaccinations,” George posted on Twitter.

Now that George and his mother are both vaccinated, they can finally spend quality time together and have their reunion, as many Americans have been able to in recent months.
