Softball is back at the Olympic Summer Games and so is American softball legend and Houston native Cat Osterman.

The 38-year-old Olympian pitched Team USA to a 2-0 shutout of Mexico at the start of the Tokyo Games, according to ESPN.

Osterman took to Twitter to voice her excitement and wrote, "Let’s go!!" in a July 24 Twitter post.

Previously turned down for a position as a U.S. coach in 2016, Osterman returned to the 2020 Tokyo Summer Games as a player.

"Once the idea was kind of in my head and my family was fully on board, my dad was like, 'I told you you should have done this the whole time,'" she said on her return as a player, according to ESPN. "So I had a bunch of 'I told you sos,' but it was just a gut check that I was making sure to do it for the right reasons."

She pitched six innings with Monica Abbott striking out three batters in the seventh.

"We have a really tight family, and the two tall trees that are pitchers for us right now, they've kind of taken on the moniker of fire and ice," U.S. coach Ken Eriksen said, ESPN reported.

Ali Aguilar provided the two-run single in the third inning giving the American team 3-0 over Mexico for the Olympic gold medal.

So far, Osterman has thrown 169 pitches in 12 innings, allowed two hits with 13 strikeouts and one walk.

At 6 feet 2 inches, the Houston native attended and played for the University of Texas, according to Team USA. Osterman is the proud recipient of two Olympic medals: A gold from the 2004 Olympics and a silver from the 2008 Olympics.

"I'm here so they can win a gold medal because I already have one," Osterman said, according to ESPN. "I want to see how they feel and how they react after we are able to possibly do that."
