In a May 19 press conference, Sen. Ted Cruz said that “mistaken and disastrous political decisions" by President Joe Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris are the cause of the current conflict between Israel and Palestine.

And he didn’t stop there.

“We have a border crisis on our Southern border, an absolute disaster because Joe Biden and Kamala Harris won’t enforce the law. We have gas lines across the country because of their failed energy policies and their failure to protect critical infrastructure. We have a burgeoning inflation crisis that is hitting people across the country and especially seniors. And now we have a shooting war in the Middle East. Every one of these is caused by mistaken and disastrous political decisions from Joe Biden and Kamala Harris,” Cruz said in a video that was uploaded to his Twitter account on May 19. “Just six months ago, the world was very different. And just six months ago, peace was flowering throughout the Middle East. The Abraham accords were historic. Historic peace agreements between Israel and her Arab neighbors. And they were the result of strong and clear policies from the Trump Administration.”

Despite a discussion where Biden reportedly pressed Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu to work to end the current hostilities, Netanyahu reportedly plans to continue the operation until his goal is met.

A group of progressive lawmakers, led by Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, has called for an end to arms sales to Israel.

“For decades, the U.S. has sold billions of dollars in weaponry to Israel without ever requiring them to respect basic Palestinian rights. In so doing, we have directly contributed to the death, displacement and disenfranchisement of millions,” Ocasio-Cortez said in a statement. “At a time when so many, including President Biden, support a ceasefire, we should not be sending ‘direct attack’ weaponry to Prime Minister Netanyahu to prolong this violence.”

Since the start of the fighting more than a week ago, more at least 200 Palestinians and about 12 Israelis have been killed, including children.  A cease-fire agreement between Israel and Hamas reportedly went into effect on May 21.
