Rep. Shawn Thierry (R-Houston) publicly mourned the loss of her father, Frederick Thierry, who passed away in November 2020, offering a statement about his life and legacy after he received a Memorial Resolution.

The Memorial Resolution in memory of Thierry was adopted on April 23, acknowledging the heartache associated with the loss of the 80-year-old Texan.

"All 150 Members of the House of Representatives today stood with me as my father was honored with a Memorial Resolution. I deeply appreciate my colleagues who stood in sympathy and solidarity with me today to officially salute my outstanding father," Rep. Thierry posted on Facebook.

Thierry was born in Louisiana and was a husband, and a father to his two children. He owned a small business and worked in the local government sector, earning him the affection of many.

“In 1964, he was joined in matrimony to the love of his life, the former Joyce Marie Smith, at a ceremony conducted in Houston. The devoted couple became the proud parents of two children, Marcus and Shawn, and Mr. Thierry worked tirelessly to provide a good life for them,” the resolution stated.

Thierry continued working for 20 years following his reaching retirement age, a testament to his tremendous work ethic.

“Frederick Thierry enjoyed a life that was rich in intangibles that matter most, and is deeply missed by all those who held him dear. The House of Representatives of the 86th Texas Legislature hereby pay tribute to the memory of Frederick Thierry and extend sincere condolences to the members of his family,” the resolution stated.

Rep. Thierry represents the 146th House District, which covers Southeast and Southwest parts of greater Houston. She was elected in 2016.

She graduated from Howard University and the Thurgood Marshall School of Law at Texas Southern University.

She practices law at the Law Offices of Shawn Thierry.
