Galveston Ball after first victory at newly renovated Courville Stadium: 'We absolutely loved being in our new stadium'

Galveston Ball High School Tornadoes football team celebrated their first victory at the newly renovated Kermit Courville Stadium with a resounding 62-28 win over Houston Sterling. After nearly a year of renovations, the stadium reopened to the public on September 15th. The game marked the first district contest for Ball High in 2023, and they wasted no time in dominating their opponents.


Behind the Badge initiative allows UH community to interact with law enforcement

The University of Houston (UH) recently hosted an event called Behind the Badge, which aimed to foster interaction between the UH community and law enforcement agencies. The event took place at the M.D. Anderson Library and allowed students, faculty, and staff to engage with the UH Police Department (UHPD) and other local law enforcement agencies. The initiative aimed to break down barriers and humanize law enforcement officials.

The Vernon Maxwell Initiative is set to host its first-ever Mental Health Symposium and Golf Tournament, sponsored by Wing Stop, on Sept. 19 and Sept. 20 in Houston, Texas. Founded by former NBA star, entrepreneur, and host of the Maxed Out podcast, Vernon Maxwell, the Vernon Maxwell Initiative was established to promote accessible and sustainable mental health solutions for athletes of every age group.


Texas Department of Public Safety promotes Wakeman to major, first woman in organization history to hold position

The Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS) announced the promotion of Texas Ranger Captain Wende O. Wakeman to the rank of major, giving Wakeman the distinction of being the first female Texas Ranger in the state law enforcement agency’s 200-year history, according to a press release.

Almost a year since he contacted the Houston Texans on Instagram pleading with them not to let him leave the city, rookie wide receiver Nathaniel “Tank” Dell made his first-ever National Football League (NFL) start with the team in their Sept. 17 home opener against the Indianapolis Colts. The third-rounder taken out of the nearby University of Houston (UH) took full advantage of the opportunity and turned in a seven-reception, 72-yard performance for a touchdown in the 31-20 loss to the visitors.
