Galveston financial titan Moody dies at 88

Robert L. “Bobby” Moody, a longtime financial titan in the city of Galveston, has passed away at the age of 88, his family’s namesake charity organization, Moody Foundation, announced in a Nov. 8 Facebook post. His children, Ross Moody and Frances Moody-Dahlberg, remembered their father as a tireless hard worker who preferred to stay away from the limelight, per the post.


Abbott announces fourth special session to cover school choice, border security

The fourth special session of the Texas Legislature is underway after Gov. Greg Abbott announced it into session on November 5. According to a press release from the Office of the Texas Governor, the agenda for the latest special session will focus on education and border security.


Houston mayoral election heads to runoff

State Sen. John Whitmire (D-Houston) and U.S. Representative Sheila Jackson Lee (D-Houston), the two frontrunners of the 2023 Houston mayoral election, are heading toward a runoff next month. The crowded field of aspirants seeking to succeed incumbent Sylvester Turner initially started at nearly 20, but was narrowed down to the two, who neither garnered the 50% of the votes to win the race.

Two Texas Nutex Health hospitals garner awards

Nutex Health, a Houston-based for-profit health care services company, has announced that two of its Texas hospitals received accolades in Nov. Astros' Dubon nabs first career Gold Glove Award

Houston Astros' Mauricio Dubon has won the 2023 Rawlings American League (AL) Gold Glove Award for the utility position, marking his first career award of this kind. As revealed by a press release issued by the franchise on Nov. 5, Dubon, who joined the Astros through a trade with San Francisco Giants in 2022, is the first player from the team to earn a Gold Glove at the utility spot.
