Governor Greg Abbott has named four individuals to the University of Houston System Board of Regents. Tommy Lucas, O.D., and Lynden Rose have been appointed for terms ending August 31, 2031. Alonzo Cantu has been reappointed to serve until the same date. Bryan Clark has been appointed for a term set to expire on August 31, 2029.
Tommy Lucas, O.D., from Harker Heights, is co-founder and president of VIEW Optometry. He previously led the Texas Optometric Association and is affiliated with the American Optometric Association. Lucas also co-founded Elevate Digital Optics and serves on its board. He holds a Bachelor of Science in Biology and Chemistry from Baylor University and a Doctor of Optometry from the University of Houston College of Optometry.
Lynden Rose, based in Houston, is an attorney with HooverSlovacek LLP serving as Of Counsel. He holds leadership roles including vice chairman of the Harris County Houston Sports Authority Board and director on TDECU’s board. Rose also serves as trustee for the College of Biblical Studies and was named Honorary Consul General to Houston by the Bahamas Ministry of Foreign Affairs. His education includes a Bachelor’s degree in Political Science from UH and a Juris Doctor from UH Law School.
Alonzo Cantu from McAllen leads Cantu Construction & Development Company as CEO and president. He chairs Lone Star National Bank’s board, sits on DHR Health’s board, and founded Valley Alliance of Mentors for Opportunities and Scholarships. Additionally, he is part of The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley Foundation Board. Cantu earned his Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration (Finance) at UH.
Bryan Clark resides in Friendswood and works as principal at Doeren Mayhew while holding CPA certification. He belongs to both state and national CPA organizations, directs connect groups at Sagemont Church, and formerly chaired Americans United for Life. Clark graduated with a Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration (Accounting/Marketing) from UH.
