The University of Houston recently honored its staff at the 2025 Staff Council Awards and Scholarship Ceremony. The event took place on June 12 at the Elizabeth D. Rockwell Pavilion, celebrating employees for their dedication and achievements. Organized by the UH Staff Council, the ceremony highlighted those who embody the university's mission and values.

Staff Council President Karl A. Hearne expressed the importance of recognizing campus partners for their efforts, stating, "It’s important to reward our campus partners for the outstanding job they’re doing. We want them to know we appreciate their seen and unseen sacrifices."

Monica D. Thompson, Executive Director of University Career Services and recipient of this year's Inspiring Leadership Award, shared her perspective on leadership: "I strive to be a transformational leader by supporting students and staff through development and inspiration. Leadership is a calling — one that requires humility, courage and mindfulness." She added that recognition from peers is an honor, emphasizing the impact when staff members grow beyond their department.

Scholarships were also awarded during the ceremony. Each year, scholarships are provided to UH staff members and their dependents pursuing degrees at UH, with contributions from both the President’s Office and donations from UH staff totaling $15,900 this year.

Hearne noted that these scholarships alleviate stress for recipients as they pursue education goals: “The scholarship awards ease a burden and allows staff to further their education with less stress.”

Congratulations were extended to all award winners and scholarship recipients of 2025.
