Governor Greg Abbott has announced the appointment of Ahmed Sheikh, D.O., and the reappointment of Elisabeth “Ellee” Carlson, D.A.O.M., and Sheri Davidson to the Texas State Board of Acupuncture Examiners. Their terms will expire on January 31, 2031. The board is responsible for licensing, examination, and rulemaking in acupuncture.
Ahmed Sheikh, D.O., from Frisco, serves as the program director at Texoma Medical Center Family Medicine Residency. He is affiliated with both the American Academy of Family Physicians and the Texas Academy of Family Physicians. Sheikh holds a Bachelor of Science in Biology and Psychology from the State University of New York College at Geneseo and a Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine from Lake Erie College of Osteopathic Medicine.
Elisabeth “Ellee” Carlson, D.A.O.M., based in Garland, is an acupuncturist and owns Southwest Acupuncture Clinic. She is part of the Texas Association of Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine. Her educational background includes a Bachelor of Science in Integrative Biology from the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign, a Master of Science in Acupuncture from Pacific College of Oriental Medicine in Chicago, and a Doctorate in Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine from Pacific College in San Diego.
Sheri Davidson from Houston works as an acupuncturist and health coach while owning Element5 Acupuncture and Wellness. She belongs to the Texas Association of Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine and previously participated in the Greater Houston Women’s Chamber of Commerce. Additionally, she volunteers for Athletes with Disabilities. Davidson earned a Bachelor of Arts in Interior Design from the University of Houston, a Master’s degree in Oriental Medicine from the Academy of Oriental Medicine at Austin, along with an Integrative Health Coach Certification from Duke Integrative Medicine.
The appointments await confirmation by the Senate.
