Governor Greg Abbott has renewed the border security disaster proclamation originally issued on May 31, 2021. The proclamation was made under Section 418.014 of the Texas Government Code, addressing the ongoing and imminent threat posed by individuals unlawfully crossing the Texas-Mexico border.
The original proclamation has been amended several times to adjust the list of affected counties and declare a state of disaster for those areas and all related state agencies. Governor Abbott stated that "the certified conditions continue to exist and pose an ongoing and imminent threat of disaster as set forth in the prior proclamations."
In renewing this proclamation, Governor Abbott declared a disaster for numerous counties including Aransas, Atascosa, Bee, Brewster, Brooks, Caldwell, Calhoun, Cameron, Chambers, Coleman, Colorado, Crane, Crockett, Culberson, DeWitt, Dimmit, Duval, Edwards, El Paso among others. All orders from the initial May 31 proclamation remain in effect.
As required by law, copies of this renewed proclamation will be filed with relevant authorities.
