Governor Greg Abbott addressed the Texas Public Policy Foundation’s annual Texas Policy Summit in Austin, where he clarified misconceptions about school choice. In his keynote speech, Abbott emphasized the program's benefits for all Texas families.

“The reality is that those who are entrenched in the status quo do not believe in school choice because it disrupts the monopoly that they have on education,” said Governor Abbott. He noted that opponents of school choice are resorting to misinformation as a last defense against its implementation. “Our goal must be to take the actions needed to put Texas on a pathway to having the best education for the kids of our state," he stated.

Abbott assured over 500 attendees, including legislative and policy leaders, that public education funding will remain intact and highlighted increased per-student funding levels. He stressed universal access to school choice programs across various demographics and confirmed parents' autonomy over homeschooling curricula.

In addition to education, Abbott discussed property tax reforms aimed at closing loopholes used by local entities to raise taxes without sufficient voter approval. He also mentioned ongoing efforts with the Trump Administration to enhance border security measures intended for long-term impact.

Earlier this month, during his State of the State Address, Governor Abbott declared school choice an emergency item for this legislative session.

The summit serves as a platform for discussing key issues affecting Texans and Americans, bringing together legislators, activists, media professionals, and stakeholders.
