HISD recognizes Dana Darden as Star Educator

Dana Darden, principal of Benbrook Elementary School for 18 years, has been recognized as the HISD Star Educator. Under her leadership, the school has experienced significant growth from its previously underperforming status. At the start of this transformation, Darden identified a need for improvement in teaching quality.

Over the past year, she and her team have worked diligently to enhance instructional quality daily. "This school year, we will set high expectations for all students and staff to achieve meaningful progress," Darden stated. She emphasized that each student should make at least one year's academic growth by fostering a culture of continuous improvement.

In her role as principal, Darden is known for leading by example alongside teachers in classrooms. She encourages students to embrace challenges and take ownership of their learning while providing tailored support to meet individual needs. Staff members are encouraged to engage in professional development and collaborate with colleagues.
