The University of Houston System Board of Regents has announced its leadership team for the fiscal year 2025. During a recent quarterly meeting, Tilman J. Fertitta was elected as Chair, John A. McCall, Jr. as Vice Chair, and Gregory C. King as Secretary. These officers will serve in their respective roles until August 31, 2025.
Tilman J. Fertitta has been a significant figure on the UHS Board since 2014, having been appointed for three consecutive terms by the Texas Governor’s Office. He is known for his support of the University of Houston and its various initiatives, including contributions to the Tilman J. Fertitta Family College of Medicine and Cougar Athletics through the development of the Fertitta Center. Fertitta also holds prominent positions outside academia as owner of the NBA's Houston Rockets and CEO and President of Landry’s Inc.
John A. McCall, Jr., appointed to the board in 2019 by Texas Governor Greg Abbott, is an alumnus of UH College of Optometry and owns Crockett Eye Clinic in Crockett, Texas. He has received numerous accolades throughout his career in optometry and continues to contribute to his alma mater as an adjunct professor.
Gregory C. King joined the board in 2023 and is a managing partner at EnCap Flatrock Midstream in San Antonio, Texas. His previous experience includes roles at Valero Energy Corporation and Bracewell L.L.P., along with involvement in various community organizations.
The UHS Board comprises nine members plus a student regent appointed by the Texas Governor. Regular members serve six-year terms while student regents have one-year appointments.
