The University of Houston has announced the addition of seven new members to its Board of Visitors for the 2024-25 academic year. These appointments, made by UH President Renu Khator, began on September 1 and aim to enhance the university's brand and reputation.
"Our new Board of Visitors are a stellar group of leaders and change-makers, bringing a wealth of talent and expertise to the University," stated President Khator. She expressed gratitude for their engagement as the university progresses towards becoming a Top 50 ranked public institution.
Arturo Chavez, chair of the Board of Visitors and principal at Page, welcomed the new members: "Their fresh perspectives, valuable insights and passion for student success will undoubtedly strengthen our efforts in shaping a successful future for the University."
The new members include Christina Funston from Save a Mind Foundation, Shawn Jackson from Kirksey Architecture, George Lancaster from Hines, Carl Lewis who is also head coach at UH Track & Field, Hannah McNair from Houston Texans Foundation, Andy Singer from Visual Comfort and Co., and Aruna Viswanathan from AlphaX Decision Sciences.
Leadership changes within the board were also announced. Devika Kornbacker is now Vice Chair while Anu Lal takes on a role as New Member Liaison on the executive committee. Ex-officio members joining this year include Shawn Kuehn from Houston Public Library and Jason Payne from Payne Law Firm.
Several board members concluded their service over the summer including Clark Beecher, Elizabeth McIngvale, Bridget Wade, and Marilyn Miles who passed away in August. Miles was remembered as a significant supporter of UH’s arts initiatives.
