The University of Houston's Energy Transition Institute (ETI) is set to launch two educational initiatives aimed at addressing the evolving energy landscape. The first, a radio show titled "Driving the Energy Transition," will begin broadcasting on October 21 on KUHF News 88.7, with new episodes released every two weeks. Concurrently, an Energy Transition Webinar series will commence on October 22, providing online discussions featuring experts from UH and other institutions.
Joe Powell, ETI's founding executive director, highlighted the significance of these initiatives: “UH is The Energy University, and ‘Energy Transition’ is the topic that should be on everyone’s mind right now.” He emphasized the dual challenge of expanding global energy access while reducing carbon emissions.
The radio series will focus on innovations and policies driving the shift towards lower-carbon resources. Meanwhile, the webinars will delve into topics such as hydrogen economy and carbon capture. These sessions aim to provide actionable strategies for navigating changes in energy production and management.
Established in 2022 with support from Shell USA Inc., ETI focuses on hydrogen, carbon management, and circular plastics. Debalina Sengupta, ETI's chief operating officer, noted that these programs are designed to disseminate information about current research and policy trends in energy transition: “Our aim is to provide reliable scientific evidence-based knowledge for all.”
The webinar schedule features speakers like Greg Bean from Gutierrez Energy Management Institute and Lei Fan from UH’s Department of Engineering Technology. Topics range from natural gas pathways to advancements in hydrogen supply chains.
More information about these programs can be found through ETI's channels.
