Joint technical conference explores advances in clean energy solutions

The University of Houston and the University of Utah are set to host the 2024 Joint Technical Conference, focusing on energy geosciences and the energy transition. The event will explore recent advancements in oil and gas, carbon management, hydrogen, renewable energy integration, and geothermal energy.

Milind Deo, Director of the Energy & Geoscience Institute (EGI) at the University of Utah, emphasized the importance of pursuing clean energy solutions. "There is an urgent need to aggressively pursue low-carbon, clean energy solutions while providing adequate and reliable energy for all populations," said Deo. He highlighted EGI's ongoing research efforts and collaboration with strategic partners like the University of Houston.

The conference aims to connect academia with industry by demonstrating how innovative research can lead to practical advancements in operational efficiency and environmental impact reduction. Ramanan Krishnamoorti, Vice President for Energy and Innovation at UH, expressed enthusiasm about this collaboration: “I am thrilled to partner with the University of Utah on hosting this important conference, which showcases our shared commitment to advancing transformative energy solutions.”

Attendees will hear from notable figures such as Sriram Srinivasan from Halliburton and Scott W. Tinker from UT Austin. Other speakers include Joseph Moore from the Utah FORGE project, Joseph Powell from UH's Energy Transition Institute, Tim Latimer from Fervo Energy, among others.
