The City of Navasota has been recognized as a Music Friendly Texas Certified Community by the Texas Music Office (TMO), Governor Greg Abbott announced today. This designation follows the completion of a multi-step certification process aimed at fostering music business-related economic development and job creation in Texan communities.

Governor Abbott remarked, "Congratulations to the City of Navasota on earning the Music Friendly Texas Certified Community designation." He emphasized that music is integral to Texas culture and contributes significantly to local job creation and economic growth, with over 192,000 jobs supported by the industry statewide.

Senator Lois W. Kolkhorst noted Navasota's rich musical history and its current contribution to the local economy through music festivals. "This designation is a testament to Navasota’s commitment to supporting and promoting its vibrant music scene," she said.

Representative Kyle Kacal highlighted the city's dedication to enhancing citizens' lives through economic opportunities. "This well-deserved designation is no small feat," he stated.

Mayor Bert Miller expressed excitement about how this certification aligns with Navasota's identity as 'The Blues Capital of Texas.' Committee member Jessica Tucker, who owns Rail & Rye, shared her pride in supporting local musicians: "We’re so excited to see what the future holds."

Kenny Graves, another committee member and local radio program director, anticipated that a thriving live music scene would attract visitors and enhance leisure activities for residents.

A ceremony cohosted by TMO, City of Navasota, and Visit Navasota will be held during the Navasota Blues Music Festival on October 19. The event will feature city officials and community leaders.

Navasota becomes the 67th community certified under this program. The TMO has played a pivotal role since 1990 in promoting economic development for Texas musicians and businesses.
