HISD schedules hiring event for special education teacher assistants on September 26

The HISD Talent Acquisition Team will host a Special Education Teacher Assistant Hiring Event on Thursday, September 26, from 5-7 p.m. at two separate locations:

- North and Central Division campuses: Northside High School, 1101 Quitman Street, 77009

- South and West Division campuses: Madison High School, 13719 White Heather Drive, 77045

HISD aims to provide quality instruction and services to students and parents. As a special education teacher assistant/paraprofessional, the role involves supporting students’ learning by assisting teachers in achieving academic goals. Responsibilities include working with small groups of students, supervising them in various educational settings, and aiding in instructional planning and preparation.

Starting salaries are as follows:

- NES Special Education Paraprofessional: $35,000

- Non-NES SPED Teacher Assistant: $25,204

Requirements for applicants include:

- An associate degree or higher from an accredited college or university OR

- A minimum of 48 semester college hours from an accredited college or university OR

- A high school diploma or GED equivalent recognized by the Texas Education Agency or a regional accrediting agency AND passing the Texas Higher Education Assessment (THEA). - Clear criminal background check

Applicants are advised to complete their online application before arriving at the event. This includes completing the SSN verification step sent via email after application submission. Failure to complete this process in advance may delay or prevent schools from extending an offer.

In case a campus is ready to extend an offer letter during the event, applicants should have digital copies of their resume, service records (if available), and THEA score report (if applicable) ready to share with hiring managers and Human Resources staff. Required documents can also be uploaded prior to the event via the job application.
