Anthony Infante, a third-grade teacher at Pugh Elementary School, has been recognized as this week’s HISD Star Educator. Infante, who has been teaching for four years, played a significant role in Pugh's transition to HISD’s New Education System (NES).
Pugh principal Keith Garcia describes Infante as having “star quality” and notes that his dedication to excellence is infectious. In his classroom, Infante emphasizes structure and positive reinforcement.
A former student of Pugh himself, Infante was among the first graduates of Teach Forward Houston, a specialized teaching program developed by HISD in partnership with the University of Houston. This program helped launch his teaching career within the district that nurtured his passion for learning.
Infante reports that his students are thriving under NES techniques, which leave them feeling encouraged and excited.
Below are some personal insights from Mr. Infante:
- Favorite subject in school: Math.
- Favorite book: The Energy Bus by Jon Gordon. "I’m huge on energy and motivating others."
- Favorite thing about Houston: The diversity. "I’m a people person and living in Houston has allowed me to connect with people of all walks of life. I enjoy making connections."
Looking ahead to the upcoming school year, Infante hopes both students and staff find intrinsic motivation to continuously improve. "Whether through student achievement or their instruction, if we have a growth mindset, the only way is forward! We did amazing last year, but we can’t stop now. Let’s work!"
