Real transformation is underway in Houston Independent School District (HISD) schools, thanks to the educators and school leaders who are working to ensure students receive high-quality instruction every day.

To spotlight these education leaders, HISD is launching the "Star Educators: Lights. Camera. Lead." series. This initiative aims to showcase the dedication of educators who provide all HISD students with the educational experiences they need and deserve. Chief of Leadership and Strategic Initiatives, Sandi Massey, will host a new campus leader each Tuesday on HISD’s social media channels.

This week’s featured educator is Alyssa Stevenson, Principal at Fondren Elementary School. Before becoming a principal, Stevenson served as a classroom teacher, reading interventionist, teacher specialist, and assistant principal. Her primary focus is fostering a positive and enriching learning environment. Stevenson's commitment to maintaining Fondren’s high standards is evident in the growth observed among her students and staff over the past school year.

Stevenson shared insights into her background and goals:

Favorite subject in school: “I’ve always had a passion for reading and writing.”

Favorite book: "Row the Boat" by Jon Gordon

Favorite thing about Houston: “The people. I have met some of the most amazing and inspiring people who have made a positive impact on me. I have been blessed with great mentors and leaders who have inspired me to become a lifelong learner and leader.”

Goals for students and staff this upcoming school year: “Our goals are to continue holding ourselves and our students to high expectations, providing the highest quality of instruction, and shaping our students into lifelong learners.”
