HISD announces critical shortage campus hiring event for June

The HISD Teacher Recruitment and Selection Team will host a 2024-2025 Critical Shortage Campus Hiring Event on Tuesday, June 18, from 12 – 3 p.m. at Delmar Fieldhouse (2020 Mangum Road, 77092).

This event will feature both NES and non-NES campuses and is open to certified teacher positions in Bilingual, Pre-Kindergarten, and Special Education. Those who registered or attend the event without certification will be turned away at the door.

Once registered, candidates will receive two email communications the day before the event after 3 p.m. to the email used in registration:

1. QR code needed for admittance to the event

2. Final event logistics, including check-in times, registered campuses, and current vacancies

Key compensation highlights for a teacher with five years of experience include:

• Bilingual teacher salaries:

Non-NES schools: $66,000

NES schools: $81,000

• Special Education teacher salaries:

Non-NES schools: $83,000

NES schools: $92,000

• Pre-Kindergarten teacher salaries:

Non-NES Schools: $66,000

NES Schools: $76,000

By the 2025-2026 school year, HISD plans for the average teacher salary to be $75,000.

Eligibility requirements are as follows:

2. In case a campus is ready to extend you an offer letter, please have a digital copy of your resume and if available a digital copy of your service records ready to share with hiring managers and Human Resources staff. Applicants can also upload all required documents prior to the event via the job application.

Internal HISD Applicants:

1. The HISD Transfer Period closed on April 26, 2024. Current district employees in Chapter 21 contract positions (e.g., teacher, counselor, librarian) are not eligible to attend this event.
