The Houston Independent School District (HISD) recently held a job fair to kick off the hiring and recruiting season, attracting over 450 candidates interested in working in the district's New Education System (NES) and non-NES schools. Chief Human Resources Officer Jessica Neyman expressed the district's commitment to building an elite team to serve students, stating, "HISD is building an elite team to serve our students—so if you’re an effective teacher or one who is ready to grow as an educator, we want you to join us."

Neyman highlighted the competitive compensation offered by HISD, mentioning that first-year teachers at non-NES schools can expect to earn $64,000 for the upcoming school year. Meanwhile, NES schools provide even higher salaries, with average starting salaries for high school teachers ranging from $82,816 to $88,816 for those with more experience.

Superintendent Mike Miles emphasized the district's dedication to transforming the education system, stating, "If you want to work in a district that is transforming the education system and that will value and also raise expectations for you and kids, this is the place to be."

The NES schools offer additional resources and support for teachers, focusing on work-life harmony and providing a specific instructional model to cater to the needs of all students. The job fair featured live instructional demonstrations from NES teacher-leaders, showcasing lessons in English language arts, math, and critical-thinking skills.

The event also included on-the-spot interviews for current and future positions, with several job offers extended to candidates. HISD's Talent Acquisition team plans to host more job fairs in the coming months as they continue to recruit top talent for the district.
