The family of the late former Galveston mayor, Roger "Bo" Quiroga, has shared details regarding his memorial and interment. Quiroga, who presided over Galveston at the onset of the 21st Century, passed away after a struggle with colon cancer at the age of 70 on January 14.
According to a report, Galveston’s Carnes Brothers Funeral Home will host a visitation for Quiroga from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m., with a Rosary to be recited at 6:30 p.m. on January 19. The report also states that there will be a Mass in his memory at the nearby Sacred Heart Catholic Church at 1 p.m., followed by burial at Hayes Grace Memorial Park in Hitchcock. The Quirogas have formally invited the public to attend a post-interment reception at Mario’s on the Seawall at 3 p.m.
Houston Daily reported that before venturing into politics and business, Quiroga was a baseball player within the Philadelphia Phillies farm system. In spring 2023, KTRK News, an ABC affiliate in Houston, reported that the Galveston Independent School District renamed Tornadoes’ stadium after Quiroga in recognition of his contributions to Ball High School’s baseball program. According to KTRK News, Quiroga described this honor as "the top of the pinnacle" aside from starting his own family.
Galveston County Daily News reported that Quiroga was the fourteenth child in a family of fifteen children. He is survived by his wife, two daughters and numerous beloved relatives.
