The first superstar of the Houston Texans, Andre Johnson, has been announced as a finalist for the 2024 Pro Football Hall of Fame. This marks his third consecutive nomination since 2021, and he hopes to be the first representative of the Texans in Canton.
Just about a month ago, it was revealed that Johnson had advanced to the semifinalist round. This announcement came from one of his three National Football League (NFL) franchises. The wide receiver played for the Texans from 2003 to 2014 before spending single seasons with division rivals Indianapolis and Tennessee.
According to Houston Daily, Johnson, a former Miami Hurricane and third overall selection in the 2003 NFL Draft, holds every Texans record for receptions, receiving yards, receiving touchdowns and 100-yard games based on franchise records.
Football Reference states that Johnson played 193 games for Houston, Indianapolis, and Tennessee between 2003 and 2016. During this period, he amassed over 1,060 catches, approximately 14,200 receiving yards, and scored 70 receiving touchdowns.
CBS Sports reports that Johnson is among a group of 15 modern-era players vying for induction into the Hall of Fame. Described as "the greatest offensive player in Texans history," he is listed alongside notable players such as Torry Holt and Dwight Freeney. The individuals who will be awarded a gold jacket are set to be announced early next year.
