Acme Oyster House, a popular dining spot, has announced the closure of its only Houston branch on Westheimer due to several challenges that have beset the hospitality industry since the outbreak of the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020. The restaurant was previously located in the historic Movie Theater, providing oyster enthusiasts in Houston with a local alternative to the original establishment in New Orleans.

The company stated that its Houston outlet commenced operations in April 2021. However, staff shortages, inflation, and other problems have hindered its ability to run effectively. "As many of our neighboring hospitality businesses began closing in 2022-2023, the Acme Family doubled down on Westheimer strongly believing ‘normal’ would soon return," Acme Oyster House said.

In addition to outlining their struggles, Acme Oyster House also extended its appreciation and commendation to the Houston community. "Your city and the Montrose area are just going to continue to get better and better," they stated. "We can’t wait (and will be a little jealous) of the major development of this Montrose corridor over the next ten years!"

Houston CBS affiliate KHOU News reports that despite this setback, Acme Oyster House continues to operate five other branches outside Texas: three in Louisiana, one in Alabama, and one in Florida.
