Jolie Rhinehart, the San Francisco Refinery Manager at Phillips 66, has stated that there will be an increased demand for renewable energy in North America over the next two decades, and Phillips 66 is gearing up to address this demand. The company's ongoing initiatives at its San Francisco Refinery are focused on readiness to meet the growing demand for renewable energy according to a press release.

Rhinehart recently addressed the future of the North American biofuels market at the Argus North American Biofuels, LCFS & Carbon Markets Summit in Monterey, Calif. During the keynote panel, Rhinehart discussed how the company's ongoing initiatives at the San Francisco Refinery are aimed at preparing Phillips 66 to meet the increasing demand for renewable energy with renewable feedstocks like waste oils, fats, greases, and vegetable oils, which can be converted into renewable diesel and blended sustainable aviation fuel for traditional diesel vehicles and aircraft.

"We currently have a unit that processes up to 12,000 BPD of renewable feedstock to produce renewable diesel," said Rhinehart. "And we are converting our entire facility to process just renewable feedstocks into primarily renewable diesel and renewable jet that can be blended to produce sustainable aviation fuel."

Rhinehart emphasized that lower carbon intensity targets in regions such as California, Oregon, Washington, and British Columbia, along with the adoption of low-carbon fuel standard incentives, are contributing to the increasing demand for renewable fuels. She acknowledged that regulatory reforms are needed to streamline projects like Rodeo Renewed, but expressed confidence in the rapid progress made within the market.

"If you look back even one or two years ago, people were asking whether there would be sufficient quantities of renewable feedstocks available to supply Rodeo Renewed," Rhinehart said. "Actually, the renewable feedstocks market has continued to grow and expand in even this short timeframe."

According to Rhinehart, the demand for renewable energy will continue to rise as people aim to lower the carbon intensity of their fuels while maintaining their quality of life. Phillips 66 is committed to meeting this demand and is actively working on converting its San Francisco Refinery to process renewable feedstocks into renewable diesel and renewable jet.

With the increasing focus on renewable energy and the availability of renewable feedstocks, Phillips 66 is well-positioned to contribute to the growth of the renewable fuels market in North America.
