A hot start to Houston Texans quarterback C.J. Stroud’s rookie campaign earned the former Ohio State University star the National Football League’s (NFL) Offensive Rookie of the Month honor for September.

"What a start," the Texans said in a September 28th post on X.

The second overall selection in last spring’s draft, Stroud began his pro career with an impressive line of 906 yards, four touchdowns, and no interceptions on 78-of-121 passing – good enough for a quarterback rating (QBR) of an exact 98 – through the first three games of the 2023 regular season, per a report on the Texans website.

Stroud is fresh from leading Houston to a Week 3 37-17 road victory over the Jacksonville Jaguars in which he tossed for 280 yards and a pair of scores through the air, Houston Daily reported. Not only was it the team’s first of the young 2023 regular season, but also the first in the fledgling careers of the 21-year-old field general and first-year head coach Demeco Ryans. Additionally, after getting sacked 11 times in the first two contests, Stroud was kept clean by his injury-riddled offensive line against Jacksonville.

Per the Texans, Stroud is their first Offensive Rookie of the Month since predecessor Deshaun Watson in October 2017. He also earned the distinction of being the first player in league history to amass at least 900 passing yards, four touchdown passes, and zero interceptions in his first three career starts. As of press time, Stroud and the team were preparing to host the Pittsburgh Steelers at NRG Stadium on October 1st.
