The Metropolitan Transit Authority of Harris County (METRO) in Houston is considering a new agreement for its bike share initiative. The initiative aims to create a multimodal transportation system that optimizes connections to transit. METRO President and CEO, Tom Lambert, stated that this initiative will empower individuals with more travel choices and support overall transit ridership. The METRO Board of Directors will vote on the new agreement on September 28th.

The bike share program will initially consist of 140 E-bikes at 20 solar-ready stations located near transit hubs. There is a possibility that the program could expand to include 100 stations in the future. The program aims to address first-last mile challenges and enhance mobility by making it easier for commuters to combine biking with public transit.

In addition to bike share integration into METRO's fare payment system and the use of the METRO Trip app to access the bike share network, the initiative will also offer affordable pricing options. If the board approves the agreement, METRO will enter into a three-year contract with PBSC Urban Solutions to commence and operate the program, starting in the summer of next year. This new agreement will further METRO's vision of a comprehensive multimodal transportation system in Harris County.
