Dr. Margaret Ford Fisher has officially taken on the role of interim chancellor at Houston Community College (HCC) as of the beginning of September. The appointment was unanimously approved by the HCC Board of Trustees in July. In a press release issued by HCC, Fisher expressed her gratitude for the opportunity, stating that she is honored to serve as interim chancellor and is dedicated to advancing student success.
Fisher brings a wealth of experience to her new role. Prior to becoming interim chancellor, she served as the inaugural president of HCC Online, a position she held since its establishment in early 2018. Under her leadership, HCC Online received recognition as one of America's Best Online Colleges by Newsweek and launched numerous online and hybrid programs. Fisher has been with the HCC system since 1985 and spent 20 years leading its Northeast College campus before her tenure at HCC Online.
Fisher's contributions to the HCC community extend beyond her administrative roles. During her time at the Northeast College campus, she played a crucial role in achieving a 73% voter approval for the campus to join the HCC District. Fisher is also an accomplished author, with over 50 publications and four books to her name. One of her books was the first to explore the topic of dual credit, according to Houston Daily.
Dr. Cynthia Lenton-Gary, the Board Chair, expressed confidence in Fisher's abilities and qualifications, emphasizing that her accomplishments and willingness to serve will be vital in meeting the Board's expectations. With Fisher at the helm, HCC can look forward to continued progress and a commitment to providing transformative education for students and the community.
