On Aug. 23, Galveston Independent School District (GISD) Athletic Director (AD) Jerald Temple announced that the Ball High School Tornadoes football team’s first home game at the newly renovated Kermit Courville Stadium at 1429 27th St. is set for Sept. 15 at 7 p.m, according to a press release.

“I believe the community will be very impressed with Courville Stadium,” Temple said. “With all the bells and whistles it will be one of the premier venues in the surrounding area. Our children deserve the best, and that's what they're getting.”

According to GISD, the home opener against Houston Sterling will be played after nearly a year’s worth of renovation efforts that took place after Ball High played its final game at Courville for the 2022 season.

Work done to the stadium includes the addition of artificial field turf, new concession areas, locker rooms, stadium lighting, restrooms, a new scoreboard and other features, the public school district said.

The release said that work on the new press boxes will continue throughout the 2023 season, rendering the top level of seating unavailable to the public until further notice.

Per GISD, the renovation work has slightly altered seating arrangements, and current season ticket holders will be reassigned to their previous seating locations as close to the field as possible.

For the first time in the venue’s lengthy history, the release said, fans can buy Tornado Seating, which is 260 seats in rows that lack seats directly in front for $20 a game or $80 for four home games with a season ticket beginning Sept. 3.

The district said that general admission tickets are $5 a game, while reserved seating tickets are $10 per game.

According to MaxPreps, Ball High is coming off a 2022 campaign in which it reeled off a pristine 8-0 mark in district play en route to a playoff appearance, a 17-7 defeat at the hands of Magnolia West.
