Former Houston Texans defensive end J.J. Watt announced recently he is joining the CBS Sports team.
The three-time NFL Defensive Player of the Year, who played for the Texans from 2011 to 2020 and finished his career with the Arizona Cardinals, initially joked he found work at CVS, according to a June 29 post on Twitter.
"Very excited to be joining the crew for a few Sundays this fall," Watt said in the Twitter post.
After being drafted by the Texans out of the University of Wisconsin in 2011, Watt quickly became one of the most feared defensive players in the game, according to ESPN. He totaled 114.5 career sacks with the Texans and Cardinals and earned Defensive Player of the Year honors in 2012, 2014 and 2015.
“We are thrilled to welcome J.J. to the CBS Sports family and add one of the greatest defensive players of all time to our team,” CBS Sports President David Berson said in the ESPN report. "As he steps off the field after a Hall of Fame career, J.J. brings deep passion, unique insights and opinions from today's NFL. We think fans will love what J.J. brings to our coverage."
Watt has been busy since retiring from the NFL. He also announced that he and his wife, soccer player Kealia Watt, recently purchased a minority stake in English football club Burnley FC, according to a Houston Daily report. The Watts are also a year removed from becoming first-time parents to a baby boy.
The Texans named Watt to their Ring of Honor June 12, according to CBS Sports. The future Hall of Famer will join late team founder and owner, Bob McNair, and former Pro Bowl wide receiver Andre Johnson, who was his teammate from 2011 to 2014.
Watt is the Texans’ franchise record holder for sacks, quarterback hits, multi-sack games, forced fumbles and fumble recoveries, CBS reported. The Texans plan to honor Watt before their Oct. 1 game against the Pittsburgh Steelers, the team T.J. Watt, J.J.’s younger brother, plays for.
