Dr. Justo Manrique, the associate dean of the Marilyn Davies College of Business at the University of Houston-Downtown (UHD), expressed gratitude on Tuesday for scholarship funding intended to assist undergraduates majoring in business, praising the C.T. Bauer Foundation for its support, according to a report from Houston CW affiliate KIAH.
KIAH reported that the C.T. Bauer Foundation gave $635,000 to support UHD’s Ted Bauer Undergraduate Business Scholars Scholarship Program.
“We are so grateful to the C.T. Bauer Foundation for its continued support of and belief in our students,” Manrique said, according to a report from Houston CW affiliate KIAH. “The success of our Bauer Scholars both in their coursework and after graduation is a testament to their dedication and determination.
“It also shows what students can do when they receive external support like the Bauer Scholarships to help reduce concerns about paying for college,” he said.
According to KIAH, 35 juniors and seniors who are studying business will receive $9,000 a year in scholarships in addition to an extra $5,000 to be used for other program expenses incurred within a two-year period.
To qualify for the scholarship, KIAH reported, students must have a financial need determined by Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) with an expected family contribution (EFC) of up to $20,000; accumulate a cumulative grade point average (GPA) of 3.0, the equivalent of a B, or higher; be classified a junior or a senior by the semester they’re awarded the scholarship; show proof of American citizenship or permanent residency; be enrolled as a full-time student; and show dedication and tenacity by way of work endeavors or student leadership roles.
According to UHD’s website, the Marilyn Davies College of Business offers 10 bachelor’s degree programs and 12 master’s degree programs, including what the university touts is the largest master of business administration (MBA) program in the Lone Star State.
“We are dedicated to improving the lives of our students, their families and their communities by providing career-focused education that will make our alumni valuable contributors to the Houston business community,” the university said about the college.
