The Katy Independent School District (KISD) recently named Gina Cobb as the new principal of its newest high school, according to a press release.

Having worked for KISD for nearly a quarter-century, Cobb goes to the unnamed campus from Mayde Creek High School, where she held a similar position.

“I am confident that Ms. Cobb will lead the school toward a promising future and will create a culture that aligns with Katy ISD’s mission and vision for student success,” Katy Superintendent Dr. Ken Gregorski said in the release.

The western Harris County public school district said that Cobb will get to work as the 10th high school’s inaugural principal this summer.

Her last major act as Mayde Creek principal was presiding over the commencement exercises for the Class of 2023.

According to the release, Cobb anticipates walking through the doors of High School No. 10 for the first time as its leader.

“I am so excited to start this next chapter and to partner with the students, parents and staff of Katy ISD’s newest high school,” she said. “Together we will establish a community of excellence for years to come. We will build something special.”

Per Covering Katy News, Cobb’s career in public education and KISD began in 1999 as a teacher and coach at Morton Ranch Junior High School and Morton Ranch High School.

In 2006, she took on her first administrative role with the district.

Before leading Mayde Creek, Cobb, who holds a bachelor’s degree from the University of Texas at Austin (UT) and a master’s degree from Prairie View A&M University (PVAMU), served as principal of West Memorial Junior High.

Covering Katy News reported that the KISD’s latest addition to its roster of high schools will be located at a complex to go up where Katy Hockley Road and Longenbaugh Road meet, slated to welcome its first batch of students in August 2024.

The complex will also be home to the district’s 45th elementary school and 18th junior high school.
