The Woodlands junior quarterback (QB) Mabrey Mettauer has pledged to the University of Wisconsin (UW), per a VYPE Houston report that was run by Houston NBC affiliate KPRC

The high school sports website reported that the 6-foot-5, 215-pound Mettauer considers the commitment to the Badgers a relief.

“I really just wanted to relieve the stress on my shoulders and I felt the time was right,” the Highlanders field general said in the report.

According to VYPE Houston, Mettauer was drawn to the game day atmosphere at Camp Randall Stadium in Madison hence his choice.

“The atmosphere at Wisconsin was electric when I went there,” he told the website. “And the love the fans show the school is the type of place I want to play.”

A four-star prospect, Mettauer selected UW out of a group of suitors that included Arizona State, Arkansas, Baylor and California, per the website 247Sports.

VYPE Houston reported that Mettauer is among Badgers head coach Luke Fickell’s first batch of recruits.

UW hired the 49-year-old Fickell to take over the position from which Paul Chryst was terminated three months ago.

Joining Fickell in Madison is new offensive coordinator Phil Longo, whom Mettauer has nothing but praise for.

“Coach Longo and I have been building a relationship for about a year and a half now,” he told VYPE Houston. “When he made the jump to Wisconsin with coach Fickell, they made me really feel like they wanted me to come there.”

Madison NBC affiliate WMTV reported that Mettauer voiced his commitment on Christmas Eve.

“I am grateful for the opportunities that I’ve been blessed with!” the signal-caller said in a tweet

Mettauer added that he looks forward to playing in the pass-centric Air Raid offense as a Badger.
