Like the entire sports world, Katy Tigers senior running back (RB) Seth Davis was saddened by Mississippi State (MSU) head coach Mike Leach’s passing on Monday at the age of 61.

Houston ABC affiliate KTRK reported that Davis, the Tigers’ all-time leading rusher, planned on playing for Leach in Starkville next fall.

Coupled with his prep career coming to an end in the state semifinals, the last few days have been rough on Davis.

KTRK reported that Leach succumbed to complications from a heart condition for which he was hospitalized over the weekend.

Widely considered one of the most innovative college football coaches ever, he made a name for himself with his pass-centric Air Raid offenses when he patrolled the sidelines for the Texas Tech (TTU) Red Raiders during the first decade of the 21st century.

Leach then coached at Washington State before ultimately taking over the MSU program.

A verbal commit of the Bulldogs, Davis mourns a man he described to KTRK as “a great guy” and “a great coach.”

"He would always tell funny stories, like when he went to Panama,” Davis told the station. “Just a down-to-earth guy who was really fun to talk to. He'll be missed."

Davis added that Leach watched part of Katy’s playoff game the night before he went to the hospital, KTRK reported.

Per the 247Sports website, the 5-foot-7, 170-pound Davis chose MSU over Florida, Colorado State and Duke.

He said that he’ll keep his pledge to the Bulldogs and sign his scholarship with them before Christmas, KTRK reported.

"Truly a blessing to know he was watching me," the speedster said. "It shows you how much he cared."
