Famed Houston rapper Bun B has announced that the inaugural brick and mortar version of his widely popular smash burger concept will open to the public next year, according to reports from Houston-based media outlets.
The first Trill Burgers restaurant will occupy a building that was once a James Coney Island at 3607 S. Shepherd Dr. in the vicinity of Houston’s Upper Kirby neighborhood, Houston ABC affiliate KTRK reported.
For the Port Arthur-born Bun B, a permanent home for Trill Burgers has been in the making for a long time.
"It's been a long time coming, not just for us, but for anybody that's had a Trill Burger or wanted a Trill Burger and couldn't get one," he said in a statement obtained by KTRK. "We've been working hard to find the right location to make it as easily accessible to as many people as possible. I think we found that location, and we can't wait to open these doors to the city of Houston and eventually the world."
According to Houston NBC affiliate KPRC, the standalone location measures in at 3,236 square feet and will feature a drive-thru.
Since its inception last year, Trill Burgers has operated as a popup eatery, gracing such high-profile events such as the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo (HLSR) and the Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival.
It made several additional appearances during the Houston Astros’ World Series championship run, including the grand opening of the Meyerland district’s Academy store on the day the team wrapped up the best-of-seven championship round.
Eater Houston reported that Trill Burgers gained national acclaim in July when it won Best Burger in America honors on "Good Morning America."
According to the website, among its signature items is the OG Trill Burger consisting of 44 Farms beef, Trill sauce, onions and pickles.
The restaurant’s menu will have more options compared to those at popups, Eater Houston reported.
