Authorities in Comal County said divers located the body of a 22-year-old Houston man on Wednesday who went missing during a camping trip earlier this month, Houston-based media outlets reported.

Aamir Ali and a few friends were visiting Canyon Lake some 43 miles north of San Antonio when he purportedly went for a walk on Friday but didn’t return.

Houston ABC affiliate KTRK reported that a water search yielded the deceased ex-University of Houston (UH) student.

The Comal County Sheriff’s Office (CCSO), which had been at the forefront of the investigation into Ali’s disappearance, said on its Facebook page members of Blue Diver Search and Recovery Team retrieved the body from near Potters Creek Park.

Comal County Justice of the Peace Judge Jennifer Saunders pronounced him deceased and his next of kin has been notified, per the law enforcement agency.

Citing Houston NBC affiliate KPRC, Houston Daily reported that Ali’s friends told investigators that they discovered his clothing and personal items by the lake’s shore.

The Texas Parks and Wildlife Department (TPWD) and even Ali’s brother, Quasam, assisted with the search, the publication reported.

The lake where Ali was found tends to be very dangerous, Nina Glass with Search and Rescue San Antonio said during the search, according to Houston CBS affiliate KHOU

"This lake is known to be one of the deadliest lakes as far as drownings are concerned,” Glass said in the report. “There's a lot of riptides effects in this lake as well as ledges and deep drop-offs."

Ali last matriculated at UH in the spring 2021 semester as a senior marketing major.

KTRK reported that Ali’s cause of death is unknown.
