A former Houston Texans superstar is now a first-time father.
Arizona Cardinals defensive end J.J. Watt and his wife, ex-Houston Dash and Chicago Red Stars midfielder/forward Kealia Ohai Watt, welcomed a son, Koa James Watt, on Sunday.
“Love and happiness have reached heights we never even knew existed,” Watt, who played for the Texans from 2011 to 2020, tweeted.
According to Houston CBS affiliate KHOU, the Watts announced in June that they were expecting.
The couple began dating in 2016 and tied the knot two years ago.
The announcement brought forth an immense outpouring of well-wishes ranging from the baby boy’s uncle, Pittsburgh Steelers’ T.J. Watt, to former Houston Rockets floor general Patrick Beverley.
In its own congratulatory note to the perpetual Houston sports fan favorite and his family, the National Football League (NFL) gave the days old infant a new nickname.
"KJ Watt!" the league’s social media accounts gushed, Houston ABC affiliate KTRK reported.
According to an E! News report that was ran by Yahoo, Watt in 2015 announced his intentions on becoming a husband and father within five years.
Aside from his uncanny talent on the field with the Texans and the Cardinals, the 2011 first-rounder is widely praised from his charity work and philanthropy.
When Hurricane Harvey inundated Southeast Texas in the summer of 2017, Watt and his foundation donated more than $30 million to subsequent efforts.
Houston Daily reported in July that Watt offered to pay for a fan’s grandfather’s funeral after she tweeted that she was selling memorabilia of his she had to cover expenses.
