Texas Southern University (TSU) and Houston Community College (HCC) reached a transfer agreement on Tuesday, per a university-issued press release.

The release said that the agreement is a memorandum of understanding (MOU) which paves the way for HCC’s Drafting & Design Engineering Technology program to enroll in TSU’s College of Science, Engineering and Technology for a bachelor’s degree in industrial technology.

TSU President Dr. Lesia L. Crumpton-Young said at a signing ceremony for the MOU that the agreement will enable her institution to continue helping students who look to forge a career path in science, technology, mathematics and engineering (STEM), per the release.

“Our cooperative effort with Houston Community College provides an accelerated pathway for students to earn a bachelor’s degree and ultimately serve the Houston region and the nation with the knowledge and experience they’ve gained,” Crumpton-Young said.

The partnership also allows those who completed HCC’s English program to transfer to TSU’s College of Liberal Arts and Behavioral Sciences, the release said.

TSU aspirants from HCC will have all their credits transferred, according to the university.

"It’s a priority for HCC students to transfer to other higher-educational institutions, especially those fine universities in Texas, such as TSU. We continue to hear reports of our students excelling beyond HCC. I am certain our students will continue that tradition at TSU,” HCC Chancellor Dr. Cesar Maldonado said in the release.

According to TSU, the agreement will make room for additional programs in the future.

The university, which was established in 1927, is located in Houston’s Third Ward neighborhood and boasts an enrollment of 7,500.
