The Houston Texans unveiled their new “Battle Red” helmet on Tuesday, according to a team-issued press release.
It marks the Texans’ most significant uniform change since the team debuted their predominantly blue Color Rush threads in the 2017 season.
“Drop. Red. Gorgeous,” the Texans said in a tweet complete with pictures of the helmet.
According to the franchise, the helmet will be worn along with the Battle Red jerseys in the annual Battle Red Day matchup at NRG Stadium on Nov. 3, with this year’s foe being the Philadelphia Eagles.
The team said that the first time the public can catch a glimpse of the helmet on the players before the upcoming season will be on Back Together Saturday on July 30 during training camp.
Texans President Greg Grissom said the helmet – the second alongside the familiar Deep Steel Blue one worn since the inaugural season in 2002 – is part of the team’s evolution.
"We've consistently shown we're not afraid to try new things, so we jumped at the chance to design an alternate helmet that will complement our uniforms, especially the Battle Red jersey,” Grissom said in the release. “The start of training camp is on the horizon and we're excited that our fans will have the opportunity to get a sneak peek of the new helmet in person soon.”
According to the Sportslogos website, the helmet features a glossy red shell with a blue facemask.
The Texans’ primary bull logo dominates both sides of the helmet, which also features a memorial decal to late team owner Bob McNair on the lower right side of the rear.
The website reported that the Texans join a cadre of teams that have unveiled new alternate helmet designs for 2022 including the Eagles, the Atlanta Falcons, the New England Patriots, the New Orleans Saints and the Washington Commanders, née Redskins.
The National Football League (NFL) gave its teams the green light to add a second helmet last year, per Sportslogos.
Fans can purchase the Battle Red helmet this fall, the team’s release said.
