A pair of high schools in the Houston Independent School District (HISD) have landed on a prestigious list, according to a report from Houston NBC affiliate KPRC.

The station reported that Carnegie Vanguard High School and DeBakey High School for Health Professions occupy spots on the U.S. News & World Report Top 100 High Schools in America, the station reported. Carnegie is ranked No. 40 while DeBakey took the 50th spot, per KPRC.

HISD Superintendent Millard House II told KPRC that the rankings are a testament to the district's work with children from different walks of life.

“This recognition proves that HISD provides an outstanding education for all children from all economic and social backgrounds,” House said, per the station. “Eighty percent of our children are from economically disadvantaged families. Without hard-working dedicated teachers, these results would not have been possible.”

KPRC reported that Carnegie and DeBakey have also been recognized as two of the best high schools in the State of Texas.

According to the station, Carnegie landed at No. 5 and DeBakey ranked seventh on the U.S. News & World Report Top 100 High Schools in Texas list.

Overall, 11 Houston high schools were recognized by U.S. News & World Report, KPRC reported.

The station reported that the publication's criteria for the annual rankings focuses on six areas: College readiness, reading and math proficiency, reading and math performance, underserved student performance, college curriculum and graduation rates.
