The Houston Astros unveiled their new City Connect jerseys and hats on Sunday (April 10), which pay tribute to the nation’s fourth-largest city’s strong connection to the space industry.

According to a press release, the front of the jerseys bear one of Houston’s famous monikers: “Space City.”

"With this jersey, we remind the world ... This is Mission Control. This is Houston. This is #SpaceCity," the reigning American League (AL) champions tweeted.

The Astros revealed their new threads hours before a street festival and watch party they hosted for fans at Minute Maid Park.

According to the release, the jersey sleeves are emblazoned with a grid pattern that's found on star charts used during previous missions into the heavens and a mission patch featuring the state flag in the team's primary colors and Houston's four area codes. The pants, hat and socks include several eras of Astros history, the release added.

The Astros, who are among the seven MLB franchises this year chosen to don a City Connect jersey, will debut the uniforms on April 20 when they host the Los Angeles Angels and will wear them in several Monday home games throughout the season.

“Our City Connect uniform links the past and the present, making the old new, with a nod to our city’s great history of space travel,” Astros senior vice president of communications and marketing Anita Sehgal said in the release. “The Astros retro elements with a forward-thinking approach matches the constant pursuit of new opportunities and extraordinary wins that represent the great city of Houston."

Sehgal added that the uniforms are the franchise's way of saying "thank you" to fans for their support.

"We don’t see this as just a uniform, but as a movement for our city and we are excited to share it today,” Sehgal said.

The Astros said that fans can purchase the new gear online or at the team store at 1661 Texas Ave.

The store's non-gameday hours are 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday to Friday and 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturday.

According to the release, the City Connect jersey line is a collaboration between MLB and Nike launched in 2021 that celebrates the bond between the team and their home city.

Late last month, the Washington Nationals were the first to unveil their cherry blossom-themed uniforms followed by the Astros, the release said.
