As the Rockets seek to boost their chances of securing the first pick in the 2022 NBA Draft to close out the first full year of their post-James Harden rebuild, the team's first-round pick from last summer is purportedly establishing himself as a superstar in the making.
As of Sunday (April 3), rookie guard Jalen has four consecutive 30-point games under his belt, and according to the Rockets, the feat places him in elite company.
"Last night @JalenGreen secured his fourth straight 30-point game," the team, which is currently 20-59 and tied with the Orlando Magic for the NBA's worst record, said on its official Twitter account. "The last two rookies to do that? Allen Iverson in 1997 [and] Michael Jordan in 1985."
According to Yahoo! Sports, the 20-year-old Green tallied 31 points in Houston's 139-132 home loss to the Minnesota Timberwolves.
The website reported that Green's effort was complemented by fellow rookie Joshua Christopher's career-high of 30 points.
Christopher, who was a late first-round pick of the Rockets, enjoyed 11-of-14 shooting throughout the whole contest.
Yahoo! Sports reported that Green and Christopher achieved a new NBA milestone: The first rookie pair to produce 30 points or more in the same game.
When asked during a postgame press conference on what his rookie season has taught him, the Clutchfans Twitter account reported, Green quipped, "That I'm a bucket."
According to Pro Basketball Reference, Green's scoring streak originated with a 30-point outburst against the San Antonio Spurs on March 28.
He followed that effort with a 32.5 points per game average in the Rockets' back-to-back losses to the Sacramento Kings and the 31 points generated against Minnesota.
Green has six 30-point games overall as of April 4, per Pro Basketball Reference.
