Alexandra del Moral Mealer, a candidate for Harris County judge, has issued the following press release:
Harris County – Today, Alexandra del Moral Mealer, a Republican candidate for Harris County Judge, released the following statement:
“We now have confirmation in black and white of something that has been clear for six-months — that the fix was in,” said Alexandra. “Lina Hidalgo’s office was apparently handpicking a partisan political operative to receive more than $11 million in tax dollars, all the while pretending that it was a fair, open bid.
“The documents make clear a number of shocking details. First, Lina was involved from the beginning, including personally helping draft the scope of work. Second, the political operative, Felicity Pereyra, appears to have been given the inside track from the highest-ranking members of Hidalgo’s staff, and Hidalgo herself. In a text message between Lina Hidalgo’s key staffers, her then Deputy Chief of Staff was blunt enough to say: “This vaccine outreach thing is getting ridiculous. We need to slam the door shut on UT and move on.” Moreover, there are even texts between staffers citing Hidalgo’s preference to draft the scope of work so that data could be used for campaign purposes “probably good for campaign purpose in her mind.” This is an especially troubling dimension to the whole scandal, since using tax dollars to help an incumbent’s political campaign would be yet another potential crime.
“In the week since the search warrants were executed, Lina has hidden behind her staff and refused to address this issue. The Harris County Judge’s Office is corrupt, it’s time for Lina and her staff to tell the truth, own up to their behavior, and resign.”
